A Hitchhikers Guide to Crater Lake

We made it to Crater Lake yesterday but were too exhausted and cold to spend much time checking it out.  After sleeping in this morning and missing all the shuttles up to the rim (7 miles of nothing but up were were not about to do agin) we hitched a ride with Tim and Ann a few folks going up to the rim.

Tomorrow we are off heading west towards the coast, and with a steady decent for almost 60 miles we expect to make an easy day of it!  Our goal right now is 110 miles in 8-10 hours, oh did I mention we will run for 2 hours before we leave in the morning?  Holly Crap Batman!  What are we doing here!

A little about Crater Lake:

The collapse of Mt. Mazama a 14,000 ft mountain after a massive volcanic eruption over 7,700 years ago left a deep basin in the place where a tall mountain once stood.

Centuries of snowfall and snowmelt filled this basin with clear, pure water of an amazing blue hue creating a lake 1,943 feet deep, the deepest lake in America.

You can really see the clarity of this water, which has a visibility of 144 feet.
